Iraq: Hold Your MP to Account

Britain only invaded Iraq because MPs voted for it. Asked on 18th March 2003 to support Tony Blair's motion for military action against Iraq, Labour and Conservative MPs lined up to vote "aye". Both the Conservative and Labour front benches in the House of Commons, including Folkestone and Hythe MP Michael Howard, supported the war. The Conservatives even argued that the Government wasn't being tough enough.

Walkergate councillors support family fun day

Eastfield Action Group and East End Juniors Football Club are planning a family fun day on Swan's Field in July. Your ward councillors are supporting the scheme with a £2,000 grant. A successful fun day was held on the field two years ago and hopefully its successor will be even better.

Walkergate councillors consult over Waverdale open space

Walkergate ward councillors are continuing their consultation over the open space between Fossway, Westbourne Avenue and Ennerdale Road. Surveys have been sent out across the ward over the last couple of months. So far the response rate has exceeded expectations with many interesting and constructive replies.

Hazlerigg Memorial Hall

The City council has agreed to spend £40,000 of Children's Centre money on improving Hazlerigg Memorial Hall. The money will be used to install new windows, heating, a kitchen, updating toilets, decorating, improvements to the entrance and installing a security fence.

Kingston Park Shopping Centre Re-development

The planning inspector has overturned the decision by Newcastle City council to refuse permission for the redevelopment of the Shopping Centre at Kingston Park. The remaining small units will be replaced with four large retail units and a block of smaller units will be built to the south of Springs in the car park.
