Enforcement "Not Expedient"

By the narrowest possible margin - the chairman's casting vote - SBC planning committee decided that 13/15 Station Road was an acceptable development. Despite the fact that the roof height is 1.2metres above that which was granted planning permission the decision was taken to follow the officer's recommendation and not pursue enforcement.

Local businesses warned of "New Romney Community Guide" advert scam

Shepway businesses are being warned to watch out for a phone scam where a call is received asking to talk to the person who had placed an advert in the "New Romney Community Guide". The caller (often a woman with a Liverpool accent) goes on to claim an advert has been placed but not paid for, a "replacement" invoice sent, and if not paid, legal proceedings are then issued for non-payment of the invoice.

Free consumer advice for Kent car owners

Kent Trading Standards will be at the Performance Area in Upper High Street, Ashford (between County Square and Park Mall) on the 20th November. Trading Standards Advice Officers will be joining apprentice mechanics and tutors from South Kent College to offer consumer advice and practical tips on car purchasing and servicing.

Worthing set to get Council Magazine at the expense of community groups.

Liberal Democrat Councillors last week discussed the Tory Cabinet's decision to publish a 2nd edition of the town's "Vibe" magazine and proposed that the budget is given to support the voluntary and community sector in the town.The Tory committee members voted against the £9,000 being given to the Worthing Shopmobility Scheme before Christmas, instead supporting the printing of "Vibe" Magazine,ironically to consult residents on the budget shortfalls!
