Hands off our open spaces
Over the years we have fought many battles to try to save our open spaces from development. The Coventry Road College playing fields, the Paddock, the Big Pit have all been saved but what is the long term future for the Wharf Pit ? The Conservative Council is determined to sell off the Brodick Road play area. We are equally determined to find every alternative means to stop this happening. The Langdale Road playing field improvements are obviously to be welcomed in principle but Brodick Road should not be sold to pay for it.

Missing teenager rescued on cliff
A teenager with learning disabilities has been rescued from cliffs after going missing in south Devon. The 14-year-old boy left his family's home in Brixham on a small push-type scooter. He was reported missing and found by police after the scooter was discovered near a coastal path.

Inspectors warn on Edinburgh jail
An increasing number of inmates with serious mental health problems are being held at Edinburgh Prison, inspectors have found. Checks also found long-term prisoners being required to share cells was causing tension and disagreements. However, the report also found many of the concerns raised at a previous visit to Saughton had been solved.

Confidence gap must close before transport investment can deliver

New rights for disabled people on public transport - Changes to Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
New legislation introduced on 4 December 2006 means that disabled people have, for the first time, the right to be treated fairly and the right for reasonable adjustments, on buses, coaches, trains and taxis. The new law will also apply to car hire and breakdown services.
