Essex County Council is proposing to slap more than 50% onto the cost of its Meals on Wheels service. Lib Dem Cllr Freda Mountain slammed the decision, saying, "I will fight this appalling rise - the third in a year - from £2.10 to £3.50. It will deprive many elderly people of their only meals."

Liberal Democrat district councillors are bidding for extra funds for youth projects in the district. They will be asking for additional funding to be allocated to the Grant Aid budget ring-fenced for work with young people. Proposed by Cllr Ann Haigh (Buckhurst Hill) it was supported by Cllr Janet Whitehouse (Epping).
Government experts were so impressed by Chesterfield Borough Council procedures that they now plan to use them as an example of "Best Practice." Officers from Government Office East Midlands (GOEM) performed a full audit of the way the Council's Regeneration Directorate runs its European funded projects.
