The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Chelmsford Liberal Democrats have announced the results of their competition to find the worst pothole in Chelmsford. The number of entries received demonstrated just how bad the problem is across Chelmsford. The winner was Heather Searle from the Kings Road area, where the problem is particularly acute, as can be seen from the photos on: http://chelmsford-libdems.org.uk/pages/Potholes.html
Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg will this evening call for radical change to fix Britain's 'broken politics'. Nick will challenge the two establishment parties to abandon their vested interests to allow reforms of the political system to regain the trust of the British people. Calling for a Constitutional Convention, led by a 'citizens' jury' of 100 people, to build a new constitution for Britain, Nick will also set out steps that can be taken now including:
Local MP Tim Farron is to support the Private Member's Bill to amend The Animals Act 1971 for a fairer deal for animal owners. The Bill which is having its second reading this Friday directly addresses the issue of rising costs of insurance for owners of cattle and horses.
On Friday, local MP Tim Farron will be on the panel of judges for the talent show 'Kirkby Lonsdale's got Talent,' alongside fellow judges Jim Bowen and musician John Helliwell. The show will be held at Queen Elizabeth School, in aid of the Kirkby Lonsdale Play Partnership. The Play Partnership seeks to raise £120,000 to provide safe play areas for children, the first phase being for toddlers, including interactive play devices.
Tim Farron MP is calling for a Citizens Convention to look at how politics can be brought back to the people. Mr Farron has recently signed a parliamentary motion, EDM 621, calling for the implementation of the Citizens Convention Bill. The bill would directly address public distrust in politics and politicians because the Government as part of the convention would be required to take steps to actively involve those members of society most dissatisfied and disengaged with the current system.
Local MP Tim Farron has blasted Chancellor Alistair Darling's first Budget, delivered this afternoon, as a cop out on green issues, and an admission that the Government would fail to meet its own targets on child poverty. The Chancellor failed to adequately address the problem of climate change, using green taxes only to take money out of the pockets of the lowest earners.
