MP wins victory over train horn noise nuisance

Local MP Tim Farron has been given assurances by Transport Minister Derek Twigg that a partial solution is in sight to reduce the noise nuisance created by trains as they arrive at Windermere station - trains hoot three times within 185 metres on their way into the station, and again on their way out. Residents of Droomer Stile and Ghyll Road had contacted Tim asking him to step in and help.

Stupendous Result for Lib Dems at Bromley and Chislehust By-election

The Bromley and Chislehurst by-election last week saw a stupendous result for the Liberal Democrats in one of the safest Conservative seats in the country. It shows that there is no confidence in Cameron's Tories in the Conservative heartlands. Together with the results in Wales, where there was a complete rejection of the Labour government, the Liberal Democrats well and truly consolidated their success in Dumfermline earlier this year .

Sir Menzies Campbell condemns unequal US - UK extradition treaty

Very soon three British bankers will be handed over to US Marshals at Heathrow Airport and taken to Texas to be imprisoned for up to two years before any trial begins. The US accuses them of fraud but has produced no evidence and none has been asked for. The alleged crimes were committed in Britain against a British bank and the three accused are willing to face trial in Britain but no charges have brought against them. The USA would not send its citizens to Britain under similar circumstances.

By-election Blow for Conservatives in their 17th Safest Seat

Ben Abbotts and the Liberal Democrats have given a huge "Thank You" to all those in Bromley and Chislehurst who supported the Liberal Democrats on Thursday. The Conservatives just retained their seventeenth safest seat in the country with a tiny 633 majority, despite a huge swing to the Liberal Democrats.

Lorely tables Moyles motion

The Liberal Democrat Spokeswoman for Women and Equality, Lorely Burt MP, has tabled an Early Day Motion in response to the use of the word 'gay' by as a term of derision on BBC radio. Her EDM has already attracted cross-party support from Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative MPs.
