Rochdale Council are set to put power in the hands of schoolchildren, if Liberal Democrat proposals are carried through after the May Elections. Currently, any 2 Councillors can "call-in" any decision that the Council's Cabinet makes, this then has to be referred back to the relevant Council Committee for further scrutiny. If the Lib Dems retain power on the Borough's Council from May, 100 people including schoolchildren can come together to force the Council to think again about any decisions they have made that affects them.
The Liberal Democrats in the Rochdale Borough are making a final push to take over the Council in May. They have fielded a full slate of candidates and are target ting a number of areas including Balderstone and Kirkholt, Norden, Kingsway, Bamford, Middleton East and West and Heywood North and West.
Over the next few weeks, we're on a mission. And I'm delighted to say that we seem really to have got off to a flying start.
Shepway Liberal Democrats have launched their election manifesto "CLEAN, GREEN, SAFE: Keep It Simple Shepway" for the local elections. The Liberal Democrats are the clear challengers to the Conservatives across Shepway District, and are pledging to focus on delivering key service improvements.
The Conservatives have nominated just THREE candidates for the Folkestone Town Council elections on 3rd May for the 18 available seats. The Liberal Democrats are standing for every Town Council seat. Labour are standing no Town Council candidates anywhere in Folkestone - in Hythe they managed just one candidate for the Town Council elections!
The full list of nominations for the Shepway Council elections have been released, and confirm that only the Liberal Democrats are realistic challengers to the Conservatives across the area, fielding 42 candidates for the 46 District Council seats. With no current councillors anywhere in Shepway and just 11 candidates for the forthcoming district elections, Labour have proved they are no longer in contention in Shepway.
