The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Balderstone and Kirkholt Councillor - Dale Mulgrew has called for new and better safety measures to be installed on Broad Lane either side of the motorway bridge. Councillor Mulgrew said, "I have been inundated with requests by residents about the dangers of this stretch of road. It is about time that the Council agreed to take some action. I have been talking to residents since the start of the year and now I have been elected it's time for some positive action. I will be working with local residents and doing a survey to find out exactly what they believe could lead to eradicating the accidents which seem to be all too frequent on this road. One thing I have learnt is that it is absolutely vital to consult with local people. It is only by talking to local people that you can act responsibly and recommend to the communities solutions to problems."
The outstanding amount of Council Tax not collected by Rochdale Council is £4.4M, and half of this is from the last financial year alone. This however is a better collection rate than many authorities in Greater Manchester. The total of £4.4 Million goes as far back as 1993.

Diana Wallis has been elected to lead the 12 member delegation of UK Lib Dems in the European Parliament. Diana, who represents the Yorkshire and the Humber region, beat Sajjad Karim and Andrew Duff to the post.
