Guantanamo detainees entitled to due process - Campbell

Commenting on President Bush's statement at the EU-US Summit in Vienna today, Liberal Democrat Leader Sir Menzies Campbell said "For too long we have lived by association with the shame of this prison camp which violates all known legal principles, but is dismissed as only an anomaly by the Prime Minister. Those who are detained should either be given a fair trial or be released."

Dundee LibDems welcome clarification over nuclear veto

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Wednesday 21st June 2006) welcomed news that, in responding to a question from Jo Swinson MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, during Prime Minister's Questions, Tony Blair conceded that Holyrood will have the power to decide whether new nuclear power stations are built in Scotland.

Lib Dems Back YES vote in Hythe Sports Centre Referendum

Mayor of Hythe Neil Matthews and the Liberal Democrats have called on Hythe residents to back plans for new Sports Centres in Hythe and Folkestone. A Hythe Town Meeting has called a special referendum on the future of Hythe Sports Centre. The poll is independent of Hythe Town Council and will be held on 29 June.

Vote Blue, Get Blue - not green or indeed any other colour

Leopards cannot change their spots and Conservatives cannot 'go green'. By their actions, Chelmsford Conservatives have shown they are not really concerned about green issues, according to a letter to the Chelmsford Weekly News. MP Simon Burns has been taken to task for using his newspaper column to say the Conservatives are "going green". Chelmsford Liberal Democrat Stephen Robinson suggests that the reality is rather different.
