Full nuclear weapons debate urged by Lib Dems

Gordon Brown has given his support for maintaining Britain as a nuclear power, angering some on the Labour left. Liberal Democrat defence spokesman Nick Harvey said "We are rushing headlong into a decision on nuclear weapons which should be considered over a much longer timescale."

Council Against Police Merger

Lib Dem New Parks Councillor, Tricia Beck supported by Lib Dem Spinney Hill Cllr Mussa Saleh put a motion forward in last nights full council meeting to oppose the merger of police forces across the country.

Bromley swing would see Liberal Democrats win in Bedford

The Conservatives only just retained their seventeenth safest seat in the country with a tiny 633 majority, despite a huge swing to the Liberal Democrats from both the Conservatives and Labour. A swing repeated in Bedford would see the Liberal Democrats gain the Parliamentary seat at the next General Election.

Political Sensation as Labour and Tories suffer at polls: 14% swing to Lib Dems taking them to within 633 votes of the Tories in Bromley and Chislehurst

The Conservatives only just retained their seventeenth safest seat in the country with a tiny 633 majority, despite a huge swing to the Liberal Democrats. The decrease in the Conservative vote is the worst by-election result for the Conservative party in a Tory held seat since Wirral South in February 1997 - the last days of the John Major premiership. Labour was beaten into fourth place.

Plans for the proposed new Sports centres in Folkestone and Hythe are in crisis. The new facilities are to be funded using the Governments Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Scheme. However, changes to this very complex scheme have meant that at this late stage the Council will may not be able to produce enough funds to make the scheme possible.
