As chair of Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee I would like to take this opportunity to say a big Thank you to all 60 councillors for the united commitment to keeping our hospital services Local, and a special thanks to my ward Colleague Cllr Jean Ashworth for her total dedication to the "Friends of our Hospital" We are all now waiting for the final results in December that is not to say that we are being complacent far from it we continue to put the views and fears across to the Pennine Acute Trust at every opportunity.
A visitor from Essex has paid a glowing tribute to Chesterfield after enjoying a coach trip to the town. Mrs V Clark, from Saffron Walden in Essex, said it was the highlight of her aged father's holiday. "We went to Queen's Park and as well as enjoying the park and gardens and river, it was a delight to go somewhere where so much thought had gone into facilities for those in wheelchairs", she wrote.
At a signing ceremony at West End Parish Centre this evening the parish, town and borough council in Eastleigh signed up to provide 36 Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) who will be helping to tackle crime and disorder throughout the borough as part of a partnership initiative between local councils and the Police.
The Conservative Tax Reform Commission has reported, recommending £21 billion of tax cuts. The Commission proposes cutting the basic income tax rate, raising the earnings threshold for income tax, cuts in business tax and the abolition of inheritance tax. The Tory Shadow Chancellor said he would adopt some of the ideas but said other changes - such as higher green taxes - would mean the overall tax take would not be cut: "We will not be promising reduction in taxation at the election. Any changes in taxes will be revenue neutral."
City Centre Liberal Democrat Councillor Fraser Macpherson has today (Thursday 19th October) released his October Update to the City Centre & Harbour Community Council.
The shortlisted Liberal Democrat candidates for the Folkestone and Hythe Parliamentary seat at the next General Election have been announced, with Lib Dem members having the final choice on 17 November.
