Local MP Tim Farron is today offering to host conciliatory talks to find a way forwards for the Kendal town cycle path. Plans for a £400,000 cycle route linking Kirkland to Dockray Hall have recently floundered following members of the County Council voting against the scheme due to concerns over the loss of 40 free car park spaces. Environment and cycling campaigners have been outraged by this decision, and Mr Farron has offered to step in to help to "fix the puncture" to hopefully find a way to resolve the dispute to the satisfaction of all sides and allow the cycle path to go ahead.
Today at 19.30 local MP Tim Farron will be presenting Hawkshead Hill Baptist Chapel with the NW Multi Faith Tourism Association Marque, following a meeting to discuss faith and politics. The North West Multi Faith Tourism Marque is an award presented to places of worship such as Mosques, Synagogues, Churches and others, in acknowledgement of a high standard of support for visitors, in addition to showcasing their cultural heritage and place in the community.
Sir Menzies Campbell used his first parliamentary speech since resigning as the Liberal Democrat leader to issue a rallying call to MPs to accept that their duty to protect freedom "transcends all of our other responsibilities". Wolverhampton South West's Labour MP,Rob Maris failed to respond to that call and allowed the Government's 42 days detention without trial bill to get through the House of Commons by just nine votes.
