Police intervention in Labour Anti-Terrorism discussion inappropriate

In the run-up to today's Parliamentary vote Andy Hayman, the head of counter-terrorism at the Association of Chief Police Officers, met about 30 wavering Labour backbenchers for an hour at Westminster last night alongside Mr Clarke and his deputy, Hazel Blears, in an attempt to persuade them to support the bill. Alistair Carmichael MP, Liberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesman said "The job of the police is to enforce the laws, not to make them. They are entitled to argue for more powers when they think they are necessary, but they need to tread extremely carefully."

Backing from Ken Livingstone for Local Income Tax Welcome

Speaking on the Nick Ferrari LBC Breakfast show this morning, the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone gave his backing to Local Income Tax as a replacement for Council Tax. Shepway Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for the replacement of Council Tax with Local Income Tax (based on ability to pay), and welcomed the Mayors support.

Is it fair Mr. Marris?

Wolverhampton South West's Labour MP Rob Marris has presented a petition to Parliament against Council Tax increases from the Isitfair campaign. The Liberal Democrats believe Council Tax is unfair and should be replaced with a fairer form of taxation based on people's income. Mr. Marris has voted in Parliament in favour of Council Tax rather than a fair form of taxation as his actions may suggest!

Lib Dem Victory For Mowsbury Park Protection

New measures to protect Mowsbury Park from unauthorised traveller encampments are to be introduced following pressure from Liberal Democrat Councillors. At last nights Executive meeting it was agreed to introduce bollards, railings and a programme of tree planting along the parks boundaries in order to prevent unauthorised access.
