The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Local MP Tim Farron has this week met with the Area Director of the Ambulance Service North West and the regional manager of First Responders to alert them to several recent incidents when their services have failed his constituents. Last week saw two separate occasions when the Ambulance Service switchboard failed to alert the closest First Responder group to the person in need of help, resulting in no first response care being administered. The first failure occurred on the 14th July in Chapel Stile when a man collapsed outside a village shop. Instead of contacting the Langdale First Responders, one of whom was only 200 yards from the incident, the switchboard contacted another group whose only active officer deemed himself too far away to provide assistance. On the same day after man was suspected of having a stroke in his car in Copthow the Langdale group, the nearest unit, was once again not informed and a first responder did not arrive until fifteen minutes after the ambulance.
Local MP Tim Farron this week expressed his outrage at the Royal Mail's proposals to charge customers sending out bulk mailings higher prices in order to deliver their mail to rural areas. In a parliamentary motion this week Tim led his fellow MPs in expressing unease at these new plans which will affect many thousands of people, businesses and public sector organisations and potentially result in the loss of already endangered rural postal services.
At the latest meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming, Tim Farron, Chair of the Group and Lib Dem MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale officials from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed that farmers will be widely consulted on the replacement scheme to the Hill Farm Allowance.
Local MP Tim Farron welcomed the recent completion of the Stock Beck Flood Alleviation Scheme. The scheme had been planned since 1999 when 51 homes were flooded but had been beset by funding problems. There had been serious doubts over the scheme until Tim called a round-the-table meeting at which DEFRA agreed to fund the full cost of the scheme. The flood alleviation scheme, which includes a special catchment reservoir, now protects the affected houses in Lowther Park, Silverdale Drive and Calder Drive from any flood events up to and including one in 100 year floods.

Rochdale Council has written to Oldham Council with their concerns and Mr Rowen has challenged Labour Minister Phil Woolas MP to 'distance himself from his colleagues' position.'
