At the December meeting of Spelthorne Council LibDems introduced a motion opposing the introduction of ID cards securing overwhelming support for the proposition. The motion was proposed by the Leader of the LibDem opposition, Councillor Colin Strong and seconded by Councillor Lawrence Nichols.

Teenager is refused hysterectomy

An NHS trust has ruled it will not allow a hysterectomy on a severely disabled girl to go ahead. Alison Thorpe, 45, said her 15-year-old daughter Katie, who has cerebral palsy, would be confused by periods and they would cause her indignity.

Breast cancer drug 'breakthrough'

Scientists believe they have made a breakthrough in a treatment for breast cancer. Some women using the anti-cancer drug tamoxifen have found it stopped working. Now researchers at Tenovus Centre for Cancer Research at Cardiff University say they have found a way to halt or even reverse resistance to the drug.
