This week, influenced in part by the recent Winnersh by-election, I want to return to a topic that I have raised before – the way in which politics is conducted.
At Chelmsford City Council, the leadership is working hard to ensure that there is a range of services to help those with drug/alcohol addiction problems or mental health issues. Obviously, this is not something the City Council can deliver on its own. That is why we have been facilitating better cooperation between all the organisations such as CHESS, Sanctus, Helping Hands Essex, faith groups, the NHS, Essex County Council and so on. . After the 2019 election, we organised a homelessness forum that brought together over 30 organisations around the table to discuss how to tackle rough sleeping in particular. Since then, the co-operation between all the agencies involved has been MUCH better. There is now a monthly meeting where charities working with homeless people can inform and influence council policy. Any group involved in this topic that has suggestions to feed into this is welcome to get in touch with the Council or one of the forum members. .
