The sheer quantity of raw sewage being dumped into Britain’s rivers and coastal areas is a scandal and a disgrace.
Responding to the Prime Minister's speech this morning, Ed Davey, who is also in Hull and East Yorkshire today, said:
James MacCleary, MP for Lewes, joined striking staff and concerned parents at Western Road Community Primary School to protest against planned layoffs of teachers and support staff.
MP Helen Morgan pressed the Government to review planning regulations surrounding the adoption of sewage networks as she told Parliament about cases in Shropshire where raw sewage is entering people’s homes.
Since the general election, many people have been disappointed to see bills continuing to rise and the promises made by Labour before the election being quietly abandoned. This is not the change we were promised—and it’s not the change people need.
Most of the day-to-day contacts we get as Councillors relate to potholes, streetlights and grass cutting, which in financial terms are actually quite a small part of the services we provide.
Everyone deserves the chance to contribute. Individuals feel happier and more fulfilled, and we all benefit from tapping the talent available in our community. This has shaped the administration’s thinking on initiatives such as the Community Vision.
